COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR MAN WHO FLOUTED FOOD BAN

A man prosecuted last year for food hygiene offences and prohibited from running a food business, has been prosecuted again by Merton Council’s Environmental Health Team after he failed to comply with the order.

Mr Shener Hasan Aziz was convicted of food hygiene offences relating to the Ocean Blue Fish Bar in Mitcham last October and served with a Prohibition Order, but three days after his court appearance he was found to be running the business again following a visit by health inspectors.

Appearing before Wimbledon Magistrates on 9 May, the court told Mr Aziz that they viewed this matter very seriously and were taking account of Mr Aziz’s financial position and the fact that previous fines remained outstanding.

Mr Aziz was given a Community Punishment Order of 120 hours to be fulfilled during the next year. He will be supervised and will have to stay in touch with the Community Service Organiser throughout the year.

He was also ordered to pay £250 as a contribution towards the Council’s costs.
