Batches of baby milk withdrawn

Merton’s Environmental Health asks parents to check products

Merton Council’s Environmental Health team has issued a warning concerning certain batches of a popular baby milk formula.

The Environmental Health team has been advised that SMA Nutrition has issued a product recall in relation to some batches of SMA Gold and White infant formula that have been linked to a case of infant botulism.

It has not been possible to prove conclusively that this product was the cause of the child’s illness and this recall is a precautionary approach only.

Andrew Bradley, of Merton’s Environmental Health Department, said: “It is important that no one continues to use these particular batches of SMA Gold and White. They should be thrown away or returned to the retailer.”

The Expiry dates of the particular batches are 28 October 01 and 18 November 01. No other products are affected by the recall.

The Batch Numbers (these can be found on the bottom of the can) are:

D8L282 – SMA Gold
D8L292 – SMA Gold
D8L302 – SMA Gold
D8L312 – SMA Gold
H8M074 – SMA Gold
H8M084 _ SMA Gold
L8L294 _ SMA White
L8L304 _ SMA White
