Merton Heritage Centre is now open on Sundays
The ghost of Merton’s past can be visited any day of the week, as Merton Heritage Centre in Mitcham is now open on Sunday afternoons from 1-4pm.
The centre tells the story of Merton’s past though a series of continually changing exhibitions and events. The current ‘Our Heritage’ exhibition, which runs until 27 January 2002, looks at life in Merton during the 20th Century through photographs, documents and period objects. The display also features the memories of local people ranging from school days and family life, to local industry, leisure time and world war.
Merton Heritage Centre is also celebrating the festive season, with a Christmas market on Saturday 8 December from 10.30am – 4.30pm. There will be a range of Christmas stalls selling handcrafted goods, books, seasonal decorations and a fine selection of festive treats.
The centre is based at The Canons, a beautiful historic house in Mitcham. Opening hours are Tuesday to Thursday 10am-4pm, Friday and Saturday 10am – 5pm and Sunday 1pm-4pm. Admission is free.
