Liberty Primary will play in national finals
Pupils from a Merton school have made it through to the national finals of a football competition and will now compete in a tournament at the National Academy in Lilleshall as champions of the South & South East of England.
Liberty School Year 6 team, made up of boys aged ten and 11, beat Cambridgeshire 3-2 in the South East of England Championships held in Ipswich following a thrilling match that was decided using the golden goal rule.
Liberty?s winning streak has already seen them become Merton and Surrey champions and they will now face opposition from the best school teams in the country. The finals were set to take place at Manchester United?s Old Trafford stadium, but the venue has switched to the FA Academy where professional football scouts will be in attendance.
Headteacher, Chris King, said: ?Everyone at the school is already over the moon at the team?s success, but they just keep on winning.
?The boys and the team coach, teacher Nick Page, have represented Liberty and Merton really well and the finals at the national football academy will be a dream come true for all of the boys I?m sure. I wish them the very best of luck!?
