Merton excels at attracting and retaining businessesMerton has been attracting and retaining business better than other South London Boroughs, according to research carried out on behalf of Kingston University.
The research shows that among a group of seven comparable south London boroughs, Merton was the only one to achieve a net increase in the number of firms coming to the borough as well as a net increase in jobs as a result of businesses moving in and out of Merton.
Councillor Su Assinen, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “We put Merton’s business success down to our strong and focused policies for the protection of employment land. These have enabled the Council to keep open opportunities for business investment and jobs in the face of rocketing prices for housing land.
“Our Business and Environmental Partnerships Unit has worked hard to strengthen and implement these policies. They provide excellent services to individual businesses and deserve praise for this success.”
