Merton Wins Civic Trust AwardsMerton has been successful in this year’s Civic Trust Awards, one of the UK’s most prestigious award schemes for architecture and environmental design.

The Civic Trust Award, given to projects that reach the highest standards in terms of both their design and their contribution to their environment and community, was won by the Millennium building at the All England Club, Wimbledon.

The South Wimbledon District Guides Building also won a Commendation, which is given to projects that are of an extremely high standard.

The awards are given to outstanding architecture and environmental design and are unique in that they take into account the benefit each project brings to its local area as well as considering the quality of its design.

Steve Clark, Head of Planning, said: “These awards really give us a sense of civic pride. The Civic Trust is a key environmental charity, working to achieve significant improvements in the quality of urban living. We are honoured these outstanding buildings in the borough have been recognised for their quality”

The Civic Trust Awards were established in 1959 and are highly respected among building professionals and local communities alike and attract entries from all over Britain. Since 1959 the Civic Trust has given 1082 awards.
