National strike action causes alterations to Merton’s refuse collections
Merton’s refuse collection times will be a day later next week due to local government members of UNISON, TGWU and GMB voting in favour of strike action on Wednesday 17 July as part of a National campaign to increase pay.
The strike will severely disrupt council services affecting some members of the public as most of the authority will be working on a reduced service. As a result the refuse collection dates have be changed next week. The revised dates for households are as follows:
Normal collection day: Changed to:
Wednesday 17 July Thursday 18 July
Thursday 18 July Friday 19 July
Friday 19 July Saturday 20 July
Normal refuse collection service will resume again from Monday 22 July 2002. Merton Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by these changes.
For further information about the altered refuse collection times contact the refuse helpline on 020 8545 4157. Information about the Council’s arrangements for other affected services will be available on Merton’s website http://www.merton.gov.uk from Friday 12 July.
