First school in Merton to achieve specialist school status.
Raynes Park High School is celebrating after it was announced that it has been awarded Specialist technology school status.
This means the school will have a special focus on the subjects of Maths, Information Technology, Science and all Design options, while continuing to deliver the full National Curriculum and striving to raise standards across the board.
The success for the school has come after two years of hard work; individually raising £50,000 in sponsorship and producing a detailed development plan along side community partners.
Ian Newman, Headteacher of Raynes Park High School, said: “Our reward and now our challenge will be to apply the improved resources we receive to those ambitious new plans and to make sure we deliver on the demanding targets we have set ourselves over the next four years, and that they benefit both students and the local community.
“We are proud to be the first specialist school in Merton and feel it is an additional vote of confidence from the DfES that we have achieved this at the same time as we face a major borough reorganisation and an expansion of pupil numbers.
“I would like to thank the staff, governors, students and parents for all their hard work and dedication to this project.”
Councillor Geraldine Stanford, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “This is really good news for Raynes Park High and Merton LEA. I am very proud of the hard work that the school has shown to achieve this.”
