Mayor of Merton to attend Mitcham v Hambledon cricket match
The Mayor of Merton, Councillor Edith Macauley, is preparing to go cricket crazy this weekend when she attends a cricket match to support Mitcham Cricket Club, the oldest cricket club in the world.
Mitcham Cricket Club, which is the Mayor’s chosen charity for the year, is facing Hambledon, the second oldest club. These two teams were due to meet recently at Mitcham’s home ground to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, but unfortunately due to recent bad weather the match was rained off.
The Mayor of Merton, Councillor Edith Macauley, said: ” I am looking forward to traveling to Hambledon to see Mitcham and Hambledon face each other. It should be a great day for all involved.’
The match will be taking place on Sunday 24 August at Hambledon Cricket Club, Ridge Meadow, Brooks Lane, Hambledon, Waterlooville, Hants. The match will start at 2pm and the Mayor will be arriving at Hambledon at 3.30pm.
