LONDON HEATHROW YOUTH GAMES 2003 – Calling all Merton’s young athletes

Merton is looking for young people in school year 12 and under to represent the borough this June and July in the 2003 London Heathrow Youth Games – Europe’s largest youth sport competition.

The finals will take place on the weekend of July 12th and 13th, at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre with preliminary rounds over the four previous weekends.

Competitors must either live in or go to school in Merton to be eligible to take part.

Merton had many success last year, winning medals and placings in:-

· Sailing Regatta Team Gold 2nd year running, Individual Gold, Silver and Bronze
· Karate Individual Gold
· Cycling Team Bronze, Individual Silver and Bronze
· Canoeing Individual Bronze
· Judo Individual Bronze
· Mini Games Team Bronze for Basketball.

The London Heathrow Youth Games is now in its 26th year and features over thirty-five different sports. The wide variety includes everything from angling to showjumping, as well as the popular Watersports Regatta where young people can show their skills at sailing, rowing, kayaking, bell boat and dragon boat racing.
