Merton Partnership Against Crime (MPAC) has published Merton’s CCTV Strategy 2003-2004.
The Strategy outlines the current CCTV and Radio Link provision for Merton, the systems used and the plans to make greater use of the systems for targeted monitoring, intelligence gathering and enforcement. It also looks towards future investments and partnerships.
Merton’s CCTV is used to reduce crime and disorder, reduce fear of crime, protect public and private property and services, improve the vitality and economy of town centres and helps to make Merton Safe & Sound.
There are currently 170 cameras operating in town centres, community shopping areas, car parks and housing estates. The CCTV is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with direct voice and picture links to Merton Police control room.
There are also Radio Link networks in operation in Wimbledon and Morden Town Centres, with a new network currently being established in Mitcham Town Centre.
