New Opportunities For Surplus Council School Sites

Merton Council is consulting the public on a planning brief for the future use of two surplus school sites. The former Rowan High School and Brenley Playing Field sites are expected to provide exciting new developments for East Mitcham.

These sites will provide new public parks, nature conservation areas, community facilities, together with new housing. They will help to create a new community focus, raising the profile of East Mitcham.

Merton’s priority is to provide new public open space but some development on these sites is need. The Council is promoting these sites as sustainable development opportunities within the borough as part of the Council’s commitment to sustainable development and encouraging cutting-edge solutions to environmental problems. The Council’s vision is to see these sites developed as one of the best examples of sustainable urban living in London.

The Council would like to hear your views on the planning briefs for these sites. Public consultation will run from Monday 11August until 10 September 2003. Further information can be found at Merton Civic Centre, all Merton’s Libraries, and is available on Merton’s website.
