Job Hunting? Merton Jobs Fair has the answer

The first ever borough-wide Jobs Fair will take place in Merton at Mitcham Fair Green from 10am – 4pm on 16 September, to give residents the opportunity to meet and greet local employers from a number of speciality fields.

The one-day fair will aim to put residents in contact with employers from Wimbledon, Colliers Wood and Mitcham. Jobcentre Plus has been able to attract a number of high profile employers with quality vacancies to fill – residents can come along and pick up application forms or speak to employers for more details. There will also be information on training opportunities in areas such as Admin, IT and Childcare.

Merton Council, who provides more than 5,000 jobs in the borough, will also have a stall at the event. Employees perform a variety of jobs ranging from teachers, social workers and benefit officers to dog wardens, gravediggers and pest control officers.

Rob Moran, Merton Council’s Head of Regeneration, said: “By providing residents opportunities in training and employment, they will be able to enhance and improve their current skills. As a result, residents will be able to impress local employers and increase their chances of employment. The Jobs Fair is part of the council’s commitment to neighborhood renewal.

“So if you are stuck in a rut, tired of your job or just looking for inspiration, come along to the Jobs Fair and see what there is on offer.”

The event is backed by an innovative partnership between Merton Council’s Towards a Thriving Merton Project and Mitcham, Wimbledon and Colliers Wood Jobcentres, providing the fair free of charge to the public.
