Merton celebrated with a bang as residents and visitors turned out in their masses to celebrate this year’s firework and musical spectacular on Friday 5 November at Wimbledon Park and Saturday 6 November at Morden Park.
Visitors to the events were provided with a sparkling array of colourful fireworks choreographed to popular and classical music, along with numerous fairground rides and side stalls for fun and games. Over 13,500 people watched the Wimbledon display, and approximately 6,000 people watched the Morden display.
Two local families joined the Mayor of Merton, Councillor Margaret Brierly, to light the bonfires after winning a competition in the council’s magazine – My Merton. Bibi Baker and family lit up the borough at the Wimbledon Park display and Oscar Truman-Wallace and his parents helped at the Morden Park display on Saturday.
The Mayor said: “I thoroughly enjoyed both the Wimbledon and Morden displays. I especially enjoyed the way the fireworks were set to music. The atmosphere was wonderful”.
