Merton marks Meals on Wheels week
Meals on Wheels will be delivering gifts this week to the lucky winners of a Merton competition.
All 550 residents who are users of the service in Merton were entered into the free draw to mark National Meals on Wheels week.
And this week, the winners will receive flowers, chocolates and a fruit basket with their dinners.
The competition was arranged by Sodexho Healthcare who, in partnership with Merton provide, 110,000 meals every year to people in the borough. People who, because of the service, are able to remain independent in their own homes.
National Meals on Wheels Week runs from Monday 8th November to Sunday 14th November to draw attention to the service that sees over forty million meals delivered annually up and down the country.
Councillor Andy Coles, Merton’s Cabinet Member for Care services said:
“The Meals on Wheels Service is vitally important to older people. It enables many to live independently within their communities, ensures social contact is maintained and a nutritional, tasty meal is provided.”
