Merton Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) has developed a leaflet advising licensees of local venues about how they can help avoid alcohol-fuelled violence in the borough.
Titled ‘Alcohol and Crime’, the leaflet advises licensees about how to reduce the consequences of alcohol related violence by providing evidence of good practice from around the country which has decreased levels of alcohol related violence.
Merton DAAT distributed the leaflet and other party safe advice to various establishments in both Wimbledon and Morden in the lead-up to the festive season and is now also offering free advice and training for all staff working on licensed premises.
Councillor Andy Coles, Merton’s Cabinet Member for Care Services said:
“There has been considerable national coverage about the problems generated by alcohol consumption. Merton DAAT is committed to working in partnership with venues, the police and the licensing authority to ensure that the borough is made as safe as possible for those wanting to enjoy local nightlife or for residents using our town centres.”
