Transport Gets The Green Light

Merton has successfully secured a £3.4 million Borough Spending Plan settlement for transport, from Transport for London (TFL), after submitting their spending plan for 2005-2006.

The £3.4 million will be allocated as follows:
· £1.1m to road maintenance
· £865,000 to road safety schemes
· £166,000 to safer routes to schools
· £568,000 has been allocated to
reducing social exclusion,including
£348,000 to walking and cycling
schemes, £120,000 to complete the
Lavender Fields Streets for People
Scheme and £100,000 to the Morden
Industrial Area Streets for People
Scheme.

Councillor Russell Makin, Merton Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Regeneration, said:

“I am delighted that we have been successful in our bid to Transport for London. The money will greatly assist in improving our roads and making them safer for residents in 2005-2006.”
