The Pollards Hill Little Football League was kicked off on Saturday 12 February.
Mayor of Merton, Councillor Margaret Brierly officially launched the league at the Recreation Ground in Pollards Hill, Mitcham.
The Pollards Hill Little Football League is a crime diversion initiative developed by the Merton Neighbourhood and Street Warden Scheme with funding from the Pollards Hill Housing Association and the London Borough of Merton.
The aim of the league is to keep youngsters fit and off the streets with a view to reducing anti social behaviour and environmental crime.
Enyi Njoku, Chair of the Pollards Hill Little League and Neighbourhood and Street Warden Operations Supervisor said:
“It is important for the players and the various teams to develop a culture of friendship, team spirit and competition.
“If this is done both on the field and in the streets, it will create community cohesion and help to make a Pollards Hill a good place to live and work.”
