Athletes of the Future

Over 40 young athletes represented Merton in the Adidas London Mini Marathon on 17 April.

Merton entered a full team of 48 runners between 11-17 years and finished 14th out of the 33 boroughs that entered.

Medena Knespl of Wimbledon finished seventh in the 15-17 year girls race while Adam Przedrzymerski who attends Wimbledon College finished twelfth in the 15-17 year boys race.

The Adidas Mini Marathon is 2.8 miles and was held prior to the 2005 Flora London Marathon.

Head of Regeneration at Merton, Rob Moran said:

‘We are pleased that so many talented runners from Merton were able to compete at the very highest level in the event. If you look at the times that some of our young people achieved they have shown we have athletes of the future here in Merton.”

Merton Leisure Development is looking for other young sport stars to compete in the London Youth Games in July 2005. For more information visit http://www.merton.gov.uk
