Registered childminders in Merton will mark this year’s National Childminding Week with a huge charity event.
The fun day at Canons Leisure Centre, Mitcham is open to all childminders in the borough and hopes to highlight the essential role childminders play in developing children’s speech, language and communication skills.
To this end a story-telling session and sponsored sing-along will form part of the day along with other attractions such as a bouncy castle and a picnic.
Cheryl Brockbank, Childminding Support Officer at Merton explains more.
“We are hoping to get as many childminders as possible involved. Childminders provide a unique, flexible service where the children are cared for well and all round development is encouraged. Songs and stories are great for helping children recognise sound patterns and sentence structure. Supporting their early communication is all part of the quality service registered childminders provide for children and their parents”
The money raised will go to I CAN, a registered charity that helps children with speech and communication difficulties.
The fun starts at 11-30am on Wednesday June 22 at Canons Leisure Centre, Madiera Hall Mitcham.
