Scores of Merton’s war veterans visited Morden Park on Sunday 10 July to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two with a victory party and Service of Commemoration hosted by Merton Council.
The event, which was organised in conjunction with the Royal British Legion, celebrated, remembered and thanked all those men and women who fought for our freedom 60 years ago.
On the day, local veterans were treated to performances by Cockney Pride and Ken Mackintosh’s Big Band, and then a special reception at Morden Park House.
The Mayor of Merton, Councillor Judy Saunders, said, “The victory party was a great success, I thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was a marvellous way to thank all those that contributed to the war effort 60 years ago. I hope everyone that attended had as much fun as I did.”
