Photo opportunity – Olympic athlete in Merton

What: Top sprint athlete, Kim Collins from St Kitts and Nevis, will be attending the 2006 Norwich Union Star Track Week

Where: Wimbledon Park Athletics Track, Church Road, SW19

Top sprint athlete, Kim Collins, will put potential future Olympians through their paces tomorrow at Wimbledon Park Athletics Track.

The 2006 Norwich Union Star Track Week started on Monday and will finish this Friday. Part of Merton’s Summer 2006 Plus programme, the week is aimed at children between 8 to 13 years old. It is a programme of coaching activities and mini-athletics competitions, and is a nationwide initiative designed to bring fun and excitement to youngsters.

Councillor Maurice Groves, cabinet member for Community Services said:

“What a wonderful way for children to spend their summer holidays. Not only are they keeping fit, but they are also making use of the excellent new athletics track in Wimbledon Park. I hope they thoroughly enjoy tomorrow and I’m sure Merton’s Leisure Development Team echo this sentiment”
