Merton Council is delighted that the two new academies will be open to pupils next week. St Mark’s Church of England Academy (formerly Mitcham Vale) and Harris Academy Merton (formerly Tamworth Manor) will begin the new term on Monday 11 September.
The academies will bring with them new investment, both in the infrastructure and in the overall funding available for the pupils day-to-day education.
Sixth forms will be developed at the academies and both schools will have specialist status; St Mark’s Academy will specialise in Science, Technology and Enterprise and Harris Academy will specialise in Enterprise and Sport.
Dave Hill, Director of Children, Schools and Families said:
‘Merton Council is determined that children and young people should have the best possible life chances, key to this the quality of education and attainment in our Schools. The two new academies will bring a step change to improving the education for young people’
