Video owner found guilty

The owner of Ayngaran Video, Mr Kurunamoorthy, pleaded guilty to 18 matters brought at Wimbledon Magistrates court on 4 October 2006, by Merton Council.

Mr Kurunamoorthy, trading as Ayngaran International, of 30 High Street, Colliers Wood, SW19 2AB was found guilty of selling DVDs and Videos, which had not been classified by the British Board of Film Certification (BBFC). Since the recordings had not been certified, they could have contained inappropriate material, such as extreme violence or of a sexually explicit nature

Trading Standard Officers visited the shop following a complaint made in July 2005. This was after they had written to the owner, outlining requirements of the Video Recordings Act. They allowed him time to resolve the situation and in September 2005, returned, to seize the recordings still in breach of the requirements.

Mr Kurunamoorthy was fined £1800, £100 per offence, and ordered to pay costs of £1643. He was given seven days to pay the entire amount of £3443
