Sleigh bells ring as Merton Council has once again teamed up with Centre Court Shopping in Wimbledon and The Volunteers Centre Merton, providing a special Christmas shopping afternoon from 10.30am to 1pm on Sunday 26 November for those who otherwise find it difficult to get to the shops.
Merton Council invited people with disabilities, their companions, pensioners and anybody with mobility problems to enjoy a free ride to and from the shops at Centre Court, Wimbledon. The morning also featured carol singing by The Mayor and children from Joseph Hood Primary School with free coffee for all concerned.
The Mayor of Merton, Councillor Geraldine Stanford, joined in the seasonal cheer. She said: “This is a real Christmassy event that enables the less mobile members of our community to join in the festive spirit – hassle free. I would like to thank our partners, The Centre Court Shopping Centre, The Volunteers Centre Merton and the children for continuing to support this seasonal event.”
As in previous years, the council provided free transport to anyone who needed it. If you would like further information about this special event please call Helle Kristjansen at Merton Council on 020 8545 3077.
