New lighting will be installed in Lavender Park to help improve personal safety for people that visit the park and pass through it on their way home.
The lighting, which will cost in the region of £14,500, is a result of partnership work between Merton Council and local housing associations. Merton Council will contribute £12,500 and anticipate that the housing associations will pledge £2,000.
The work is due to start the week commencing 12 March.
Councillor Tariq Ahmad, cabinet member for Environment and Traffic Management said:
“I am very pleased that new lighting will be installed in Lavender Park. It will improve the appearance of the park and will drive down the fear of crime that exists when an area is poorly lit.
“I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to the officers from Merton Council who worked hard to get this funding, and to the local housing associations for their generous contribution.”
