Experts have hailed Merton Council’s website as one of the top six local council websites in the country.
The council scored 60% in a report by website experts Webcredible – which judged local council websites against 20 best practice guidelines specifically created for local government sites.
These include making sure websites have prominent ‘contact us’ links, homepage return buttons, an A-Z of services and text resizing controls.
Other considerations covered how easily customers could navigate the sites and fill in online forms.
Webcredible’s report reveals Merton and the five other councils have all improved their online services, making it simpler for residents to pay their council tax and study planning applications online.
Merton Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for Corporate Resources Councillor Samantha George said: “This is great news for Merton and testament to the hard work we have been putting into our website.
“Having an informative and easy to use website means we can communicate with our residents and find out how to put their needs first as well as provide them with value for money.”
