Road delays expected as thousands mourn

Road users should expect severe delays as thousands of mourners plan to attend the funeral service of the late Father Kevin Donovan at Sacred Heart Church, Edge Hill in Wimbledon.
Merton Council is asking drivers to be patient and leave extra time for travel on Monday 1 September when a church service is due to take place at 6.30pm. There are also likely to be delays of up to an hour on Tuesday 2 September as the cortege leaves Sacred Heart Church at 1.30pm, travelling via Worple Road, Raynes Park Bridge and Grand Drive, and arriving at Garth Road cemetery at about 2.30pm.
Cabinet Member for Planning and Traffic Management, Cllr William Brierly said: ‘I offer my condolences to the friends, parishioners and all who knew Father Donovan and know that many Merton residents will be thinking of him at this sad time.”
