Tiny tots causing havoc are no longer an excuse for mums not to stay fit. Merton Council has set up free daytime sporting sessions for mothers – while their little ones are working hard at school.
Active Mums will start the week beginning 22 September when mums will be able to take advantage of a wide range of sporting activities including netball and aerobic sessions. All Active Mums sessions are run by coaches from Fulham Community Sports Trust and mums attending can have a say in what sports they do.
The three Mitcham venues hosting the fitness classes are Lavender Park Pavilion Children’s Centre, Haslemere Children’s Centre and Garden Primary School.
Merton Council cabinet member for community services Councillor Maurice Groves said: “Mothers who have children to look after often find themselves with their hands full but it is vitally important they have time for themselves when they can go out and get fit.
“One of the great things about Active Mums is unlike many sporting activities these sessions are aimed at mothers and take place at times which are convenient to them. Why not come along, bring a friend and have a great time.”
