Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Fields scoops Green again

Where: Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Fields, Marina Avenue, Motspur Park
When: Saturday 20 September 2008 from 2pm-5pm

Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Fields will celebrate its second Green Flag Award by hosting an open day for all on Saturday 20 September from 2pm-5pm.

In partnership with the Friends of Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Fields, Merton Council will be laying on a wide range of sporting opportunities for family and friends to enjoy. Visitors will have the chance to play tennis, learn basketball drills and ball skills, and try their luck at the free 18-hole crazy golf course.

For those wanting to enjoy a more leisurely activity there will be guided nature walks along the peaceful woodland paths at 2.30pm and at 3.30pm. The walks last up to an hour.

There will also be opportunities for residents and visitors to contribute to future developments of the park by answering a five-minute questionnaire.

Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr David Simpson said: “It is brilliant Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Fields has been awarded the Green Flag, for the second year in a row. They provide one of our very valuable green open spaces that everyone can enjoy.

“The open day will give us the chance to listen to residents’ views on the type of improvements they would like to see. It is by listening to our residents that we can get a sense of what they want and what improvements they would like to see in the future.”
