Fun in the sun for Merton’s young people

In only a week’s time, summer uni kicks off in Merton, offering 8-25 year olds the change to try out exciting arts, sport or skill based courses across the borough.

Young people in the area are invited to be king of the kitchen with cookery classes, get physical with kickboxing lessons or shake their hips Bollywood style.

Free courses are available in art and fashion; music and performing arts; digital media, film and photography; sports fitness and wellbeing; business, study and careers; and skills for life. So whether it is web design or learning how to juggle, there is something for everyone.

The summer uni scheme aims allow young people to able to access courses and activities that boost their confidence, inspire them to learn and equip them to find employment.

Councillor Debbie Shears, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services says: “Last year’s summer uni was a great success and gave so many exciting opportunities to young people, I am delighted to see it running once again. Summer uni courses are a great way to meet new people while taking up something new and developing life skills all at the same time.”

Merton schools and youth centres are also hosting a number of the projects and activities taking place throughout the borough during the summer. The Council’s Youth Centres are offering a variety of trips, sporting ventures, cultural workshops, arts activities and a heap more.
