Merton has been selected by the Department for Health as one of just six London boroughs to stage a major Change4Life Road show.
Merton’s Change4Life will take place in the beautiful surroundings of Morden Park on Monday 31 August from noon until 5pm and will include the borough’s annual horticultural show where green-fingered residents can show off their gardening prowess with their carefully tended vegetables and flowers. Entry is free.
The event celebrates personal well-being. Visitors will have the opportunity to go to the Sutton and Merton Primary Care Trust Workout World marquee and try their hand at dancing and keep-fit. The council will be organising pitch and putt, swimming and so much more. Dance troops, a fun fair, music groups, sports clubs, children’s groups, organisations for older people, youth clubs and environmental groups to name but a few will be out in force to make the day one to remember. The event promises to offer something for everyone across the generations.
Merton Council cabinet member for adult care services and health Councillor Maurice Groves said: “I am proud that Merton has been chosen as one of only six London boroughs and one of 10 boroughs across the whole of the UK to host a Change4Life extravaganza. This is going to showcase the huge amount of talent we have in the borough and just how many clubs there are in Merton that our residents can take advantage of.
“Change4Life is all about making small changes to help every one of us become healthier in body and mind. This event will give many of us a taste for healthy living. It will also provide everyone who comes along with the opportunity to try something new like swimming, dancing or martial arts. Our Cultural Olympiad weekend at Wimbledon Park last summer was extremely well-attended. The public appetite for cultural events in our wonderful green open spaces is growing. Make a date in your diary to come along and join in the fun.”
Sutton and Merton Primary Care Trust Director of Public Health Jacqui Lindo said: “This event will give all our residents great ideas and advice on how to get fit and healthy with a range of activities that can fit in with everyday life. Eating well and keeping active brings lifelong health benefits to everyone. I hope as many local people as possible will visit our marquee to find out more.”
