Young people in Merton now have access to a free confidential sexual health clinic at the INSIGHT youth advice centre in Mitcham.
Every Thursday between 3pm and 5.30pm, young people can drop in for objective support and advice on sex and relationship issues, sexual health, contraceptive advice and family planning.
Experienced nurses in this confidential clinic can administer young people with a range of contraceptives from condoms and contraceptive pills, to emergency contraception such as the morning after pill.
INSIGHT is run by Merton Council’s Youth Service and through the clinic, young people can also access Chlamydia screening and advice on safe sex.
Cabinet member for children’s services Debbie Shears said: “Teenagers should be able to ask questions and get honest answers and advice. This new service enables young people to make their own choices, being informed of all the facts. The sexual health of young people particularly is extremely important. We want to make sure there is somewhere they can turn, and INSIGHT provides exactly this.”
