Mitcham Carnival organisers are inviting all local businesses, schools and voluntary organisations from across the borough to be a part of this year’s carnival.
Anyone wishing to take part in this year’s Football Fever themed extravaganza should submit their application form to the council by 1 June 2010.
The council is also calling on people to get involved in creating their very own float and entering it into the parade. Prizes for the best are up for grabs. All application forms can be found on the council website at http://www.merton.gov.uk/mitchamcarnival. Alternatively, people interested in stall space can call 020 8545 4888.
The carnival welcomes a wide variety of organisations including charities, voluntary groups and businesses wishing to showcase their products and services. Visitors to the carnival will be treated to an array of breathtaking floats travelling in the parade to the tune of local bands who will be playing their hearts out.
The carnival will be at Three Kings Piece on Saturday 12 June.
Director of environment and regeneration, Chris Lee said: “This is a great opportunity for local businesses, community groups and schools to get involved and enjoy a day with friends and family.
‘Dazzling performers from across the borough come to Mitcham in June to join in the celebrations. This year there will also be eye popping acts to keep it fresh and one of the best days out in London.’
Notes
Charges for voluntary organisation stalls start at £25.
Charges for trade stalls start at £50.
Last year Mitcham was filled with local pride as Merton welcomed the carnival celebrations and it’s theme, the Pride of Mitcham. Revellers took to the streets to celebrate showing off their brightly-coloured costumes as well as their dancing and musical talents. St Marks Academy’s float with African Dancers was dubbed 2009 winner of the Pride of Mitcham float competition
