A fun packed Friday is in store as Pollards Hill Library shows Merton a sizzling sample of its activities on 13 August from 10.30am – 6pm.
At 10am, a walking bus from Ivy Gardens children’s centre leads into an exciting summer story time which is open to all families to attend. Family learning follows into the afternoon with family maths challenges and beginners internet classes to show parents how to catch up with the kids.
For residents looking to enhance their career skills and stand out from the crowd there will be CV writing workshops and employability support. Staff from Merton Adult Education will also be available throughout the day to chat about the new courses on offer from September and how simple it can be to return to education.
Polka Theatre are in the library running a ‘Mission to Mars’ theatre workshop for children, who can follow the alien adventure further by signing up for the space hop summer reading challenge. Each child is encouraged to read six books across the summer to win big prizes whilst learning more about science and intergalactic adventures, with space themed craft, film screenings and fun activities in all libraries across the borough.
To work your body as well as your brain there is an hour of Salsa Funtastica, an exciting salsa dancing session for all ages. With digital photography classes and information on health and wellbeing, there is something for everyone.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for community and culture, Councillor Martin Whelton said
“Pollards Hill Library is an integral part of the local community and thanks to the National Lottery, the library has recently been extended and modernised. Since re-opening last year, the library now provides a range of additonal opportunities, activities and services for all age groups. The open day will give new users the chance to see what happens throughout the library and really get involved in these activities”.
