Actress June Whitfield will be awarding special prizes for the winners of Volunteer Centre Merton’s photography competition, as part of the exhibition held at Centre Court shopping centre on 14 January.
With his winning image of volunteering in the Mencap café, Reece Edwards is awarded a Sony NEX-C3KB digital camera and will see his work centre stage at the launch next Saturday. Second place and a Canon Selphy ES40 printer goes to Colin Robinson’s image of Mitcham Library’s knitting club, and third place was awarded to Ben Muton-Phillips for his image of volunteers with sheep at Deen City Farm.
The competition aimed to highlight the many and varied roles volunteers can get involved with in Merton. Anyone could enter, the only limits were that the image had to feature someone volunteering in Merton.
The exhibition of the winning and shortlisted entries will be held in Wimbledon’s Centre Court Shopping Centre from 10 – 21 January 2012.
Cabinet member for community safety, engagement and equalities Councillor Edith Macauley said: “The level of photography was really impressive for an amateur competition. Volunteers allow Merton to offer a wide range of services and activities across the community and we are proud to work closely with Volunteer Centre Merton to encourage this.”
