Young Advisors from Mitcham have been awarded the best new team by the National Young Advisors charity.
Most recently, Merton’s young advisors working with Community group ‘One Mitcham’ have played a key role in the current regeneration plans for Mitcham town centre.
Over the past year, the advisors have been involved with encouraging other young people to get involved with Rediscover Mitcham consultations, meeting with Mitcham and Morden MP Siobhan McDonagh to discuss ways to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area and building relationships with local councillors. Young advisors also helped with the Valentine’s Day event in Mitcham town centre and took to the airwaves at local station Radio Jackie to talk about the work they have done.
Cabinet member for children’s services, Councillor Maxi Martin said: “This award is great news and a fitting tribute to all the work our young advisors have done concerning the Rediscover Mitcham project. I hope this award encourages our young people to continue the work they are doing and inspire other young people to become young advisors.”
Merton is currently recruiting for a new group of young advisors who will be focusing on health services in the borough. Young people aged between 13-19, interested in having a say on health issues should contact youth.participation@merton.gov.uk
