Brand new spa opens for business at Wimbledon Leisure Centre

The Mayor of Merton and key councillors celebrate the new spa facilities.

The Mayor of Merton opens the new Spa London at Wimbledon Leisure Centre

An exciting new spa, spa LONDON, is now open as part of a £2million investment at Wimbledon Leisure Centre.

The Better facility, operated by GLL and owned by the Merton Council, on Latimer Road in Wimbledon can now offer guests a state of the art spa area and new changing facilities after revitalising a former slipper-baths area of the centre which had been out of use since the 1970s.

The historic centre, which first opened in 1901, now houses spa LONDON following investment from the council and GLL. A thermal spa experience consisting of an Aroma Steam Room, Sauna, Ice Fountain, Hammam benches with foot spas, hydrotherapy pool, Monsoon Shower, Bucket Shower and Relaxation Lounge creates the centerpiece in the spa area. Over 50 health, beauty and relaxation treatments are available in partnership with leading International spa brands Elemis; La Sultane de Saba; Jessica and Fake Bake. And a range of spa LONDON Signature treatments include Body treatments, Facial treatments, Massage treatments, Finishing touches, Prenatal and Spa Packages.

As part of a wider upgrade to the leisure centre, new changing facilities and building improvements have been made too.

The spa is now open for members and for non-members alike who can pay as they go.

Councillor Krystal Miller, Mayor of Merton said: “I am delighted to open the new spa and think that the excellent facilities will be a great addition to the leisure offer in Merton. As a local resident myself I am looking forward to trying out what the spa has to offer.”

Councillor Nick Draper, Merton Council cabinet member for community and culture said: “How exciting to have such fantastic facilities so locally. Being a council that thinks big has enabled us to bring West-End spa quality to Wimbledon at prices local people can afford. Why not pop on down to see what your local centre has to offer?”

Simon Sen, Regional Manager for GLL said: “ We are thrilled to be able to offer our customers and local residents these fantastic fitness and spa facilities. Our main aim was to utilise the unused space and create something that could give Merton residents a private spa experience at an affordable price to relax in and enjoy.”
