Merton Council is to run a six-month pilot to extend its out of hours noise service.
The council’s environmental health team will be rolling out the service to cover Friday nights between 11pm and 4am from now until September.
The service currently operates on Saturday nights 11pm-4am all year round and has always operated Friday nights during June, July and August. The council’s environmental health team predominantly deals with noise complaints about loud music and parties affecting neighbours. They also deal with car and house intruder alarms which can be a nuisance to residents.
Merton Council cabinet member for Environmental Cleanliness and Parking, Councillor Judy Saunders said: “We have an excellent noise pollution team who work until 4am every Saturday night when we get most complaints, and on Friday nights in the summer months. However we want to assess whether there is a need for a Friday service all year round. Through careful financial planning, we are able to run this pilot. The six months will give us time to assess whether having the extended cover is value for money for our residents.”
The service can be contacted by ringing 0208 543 9750 between 11pm until 4am on Friday and Saturday nights.
Note to editors:
The number of complaints about noise that the council receives varies year on year. However noise complaints reduced by 20% last year and there has also been a significant improvement in how quickly the council has been able to respond to noise complaints.
