Consultation planned for Morden Park Leisure Centre

Merton Council announced today that there will be a consultation asking residents in Merton what facilities they would like to see in a brand new family leisure centre which would replace the current Morden Park Pools.

Community engagement specialist, PPS Group, will run an independent consultation and report back on what the local community wants for its leisure centre.  The consultation will be online and PPS will host a number of public exhibitions in the second half of March.  A special interactive website outlining the consultation, along with details and dates for the public exhibitions, will be announced in the coming weeks.

To help guide the overall decision making, the council has taken advice from Sport England on developing a high spec leisure centre that is best value for money. The budget available for a new leisure centre is £10million.

Merton Council cabinet member for community and culture Councillor Nick Draper said: “Our current 1960s pool has passed its sell-by date and is becoming too expensive to maintain. Through careful financial management, we are now able to start the process of bringing a new leisure centre to Morden. We want to see a pool, gym and sports hall as part of the new leisure centre, but we also want to hear from residents about what type of pool, gym and sports hall they would like, as well as other facilities, such as a spa or even a climbing wall, they see as making a great family leisure centre in Morden.”
