Merton Council has teamed up with Merton Voluntary Service Council (MVSC) and Merton and Lambeth Citizens Advice Bureau (MLCAB) to set up a series of free money management workshops for residents who want advice and support on how to budget and manage their personal finances.
Called Manage Your Money, the workshops are given by volunteers, trained by CAB to provide residents who need help with budgeting, paying their council tax and other bills with practical advice, support and, if required, a personal payment plan.
The initiative is guided by the award-winning Merton Compact principles, which highlight the importance and success of partnership working to benefit the borough’s residents.
Residents interested in finding out more and booking a free place on a workshop should call 020 8274 4905.
Merton Council cabinet member for finance Councillor Mark Allison said: “Our track record of working well with voluntary groups means we are in a good position to set up initiatives like Manage Your Money, which will help residents improve how they organise their finances. These are tough times for many people but because these workshops provide a little extra help and advice in a friendly, co-operative environment we hope they will help people get on top of their bills so that it is easier to manage the household budget.”
