Merton celebrates borough’s best blooms

Green fingered community groups, schools, residents and businesses celebrated at the Merton in Bloom awards ceremony in Morden’s Civic Centre last night.

Following the borough’s success in the regional London in Bloom competition, gardens, allotments, hanging baskets and the like, were recognised and rewarded with trophies and certificates from the Mayor of Merton, Councillor Agatha Akyigyina.

Based upon horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation, the categories were judged by members of local allotment and horticultural societies.

Mayor of Merton, Councillor Agatha Akyigyina, said: “The Merton in Bloom awards are a great way to acknowledge the effort that our local people put into their gardens and green spaces, making the borough a more green and beautiful place. It was a pleasure to meet all the winners at the awards ceremony.”

Cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration, Councillor Andrew Judge, said: “Merton in Bloom impresses me every year.
