Merton will be holding an adoption information evening on Thursday 6 November this National Adoption Week (Monday 3 – Sunday 9 November). 

The event will be held at Civic Centre, Morden from 6pm to 8pm and visitors will be able to speak to other parents who have adopted as well as experts from the council’s adoption team who will answer any burning questions.

This year, National Adoption Week will be focusing on brothers and sisters waiting to be adopted. Sibling groups are amongst those who wait the longest to be adopted, along with children with disabilities, children from black and ethnic minority backgrounds and those aged five and over. The council is calling on more people to step forward and give a loving home to those who need it.

Merton’s cabinet member for children services, Councillor Maxi Martin said: “We know from families who have made the step to bring a child into their home to live with them as part of their family, that it can be hard work, but the rewards are huge. This year, we are looking for loving homes for children who may wait longer than we would like them to, because of circumstances beyond their control.

“Adopting a child gives you the chance to transform a life forever, and I encourage anyone thinking of doing so to get in touch with our excellent adoption team.”
