Merton school comes twelfth in Sunday Times top 500

Merton’s Bishop Gilpin School has come 12th in the Sunday Times top 500 state primary schools guide for England. The school came sixth in London.

The list, published this week (16 November), ranks the UK’s schools on Key Stage 2 performance in 2013.

As well as Bishop Gilpin, Hollymount is ranked at 66 (20th in London), Dundonald Primary School comes in at 123rd (29th in London) and Wimbledon Chase is 335th (62nd in London). All four are in the top 3% of schools in England.

Merton Council cabinet member for education Councillor Martin Whelton said: “We are really proud to see four Merton primary schools in the top 500 in England, with three of them in the top 30 for London.  My congratulations go to all the teaching staff, pupils and governors at these schools for their outstanding achievement along with their parents and carers for their support.  Over 80% of Merton schools are now rated good or outstanding by Ofsted and we are delighted that we also have some of the best-performing schools in London which are an inspiration to us all.”
