The Annual Celebration of Success Evening 2014, hosted by Perseid School, saw students from across Merton’s schools rewarded and recognised for their academic, sporting and personal achievements.
The event was designed to celebrate the individual accomplishments and exceptional personal gains achieved by students from Merton’s secondary and special schools and college. Furthermore, the event provided an opportune moment to recognise another year of successful GCSE exam results in 2014 and the successes of A-level students in Merton’s thriving Sixth Forms.
Students, staff and parents were joined by Merton Council dignitaries, including Deputy Mayor of Merton, Councillor Laxmi Attawar, who opened the event, and Cabinet Member for Education, Martin Whelton who presented students with their certificates and prizes. The Director of Children, Schools and Families, Yvette Stanley, closed the event praising all students on their commendable approach to learning and school life.
The audience enjoyed musical and dance performances from the talented students across Merton secondary and special schools and a talk from special guest, Ava Brown, author of Bamboo & Fern and motivational speaker, trainer and coach.
The event was extremely successful and a fantastic celebration of student achievements across the successful collaboration of Merton schools.
Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Martin Whelton said: “This was a fantastic evening which rightfully recognised the continued hard work and commitment of our students, governors and teaching and support staff as well as their families who support them through their education. Their achievements make me proud of the young talent we have in Merton and I wish them every success in whatever they go on to do in the future.”
