The service will be led by the Right Reverend  Doctor Richard Cheetham, Bishop of Kingston and is open to all those who would like to be there to remember Andrew and to give thanks for his life and ministry.

Andrew was vicar at St Andrew’s up until his death. He also held many positions at organisations in Merton. He was chairman of Merton Chamber of Commerce and of Croydon Plus Credit Union. He was also chairman of the Safer Neighbourhood Board. A pivotal figure in Merton Faith and Belief Forum, Andrew will be remembered for how he brought together people of different faiths and none. He sat on the police’s independent advisory group and took every opportunity to promote and encourage community cohesion.

Andrew’s executors have asked that, instead of flowers, if people would like to make a contribution in Andrew’s memory, they would be welcome to make donations to Faith In Action Merton Homelessness Project. Gift aid envelopes will be available at the church and can be put in the collection plate. It is also possible to donate online through Just Giving.

Mayor of Merton Councillor Brenda Fraser said: “We were all very sad and shocked to hear of Andrew’s sudden and untimely death. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, congregation and all those whose lives he touched. He will be remembered as someone who offered compassion in times of need. He will also be remembered for the major role he played in public life, bringing communities and faiths in Merton together and working for the good of the borough. Andrew will be sorely missed.”
