Rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of more than 30 people who turned up at Morden Civic Centre to celebrate International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
Tyrone Ashby, Chair of Merton LGBT Forum, said he has been subject to more than a dozen homophobic incidents during his lifetime with the last occurring as recently as a month ago.
“Everyone has a right to live their life the way they want to and apps like Be Safe and Self Evidence allowing people to instantly report crimes to the Police without having to speak to them.”
The forum is involved in a number of projects including the introduction of HIV testing across Merton, planned advice and information tents near cruising sites and a grant to start a LGBT youth club which meets bi-monthly and has its own Facebook (see Merton LGBT + youth club.
All activities and events organised by the forum are free and run by volunteers. For more details, see mertonlgbtforum.org.uk
