Merton Council is auctioning the first swim in the new Morden Leisure Centre swimming pool.
The silent auction opens tomorrow (Friday 12 October) at 12noon and residents can submit their bid using the online form. Bidding will close at noon on Tuesday 30 October, terms and conditions are online. The winning bidder(s) will enjoy exclusive access in Morden Leisure Centre at 3.30pm on the afternoon of Tuesday 6 November in advance of opening to the public at 4pm. The auction is raising funds for the Mayors Charities.
The new leisure centre for all the family to enjoy boasts a 25m x 13m main pool and smaller secondary pool, whose moveable floor accommodates everything from shallow toddler sessions to diving. There’s a studio, a fitness suite and a much-requested café with outside seating to welcome Morden Park dog walkers.
For disabled users the centre has a Changing Places facility with accessible toilet, shower, changing bed and hoist. There are plenty of additional accessible toilets and showers and a pool pod for access in and out of the water.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for community and culture, Councillor Nick Draper said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to mark their place in the new leisure centre’s history, whilst raising money for the Mayor’s charities. This centre is a wonderful facility for everyone to have fun and keep fit, and I can’t wait to see it being used by the community that helped shape its design.”
