Merton council and the police have won an order to shut down a brothel in Mitcham.
Merton Council’s Safer Merton team worked with the police to investigate complaints from residents about a property in Mitcham. They reported concerns about men acting suspiciously and visiting the house at odd times of the day and night. .
Further investigations revealed that the home was being used as a brothel, which led Merton Council to apply to Wimbledon Magistrates Court early last week, (Wednesday 17 October) for a premise closure order for three months under s.80 ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014. The order was granted on Wednesday 17 October.
Cabinet member for community safety, engagement and equalities, Councillor Edith Macauley, said: “I’m pleased to see the council, police and residents all working together to take swift action to get this brothel closed down. I encourage residents to keep coming forward to report crime and play their role in keeping our communities safe.”
