The Whatley Campus of Melrose College held a ceremony last week to celebrate the school’s opening in September 2022.

The decision was taken in 2021 to go ahead with the construction of a new provision for children with special education needs in SW20.

Whatley has created more than more than 80 new school places for children with Autism and Communication Needs in a former school building.

With cross-party support, and after consultation with local schools and parents, the project swiftly moved from conception to completion in just 12 months

The Edwardian building which has served Merton’s children for decades has been adapted to be fit for purpose for children with Autism.  

Since opening its doors as planned at the beginning of the school year, pupils have been enjoying the site for over a full term now.
